Jewellery Care Guide
Ornare The Label jewellery is made with high quality micron gold plating which provides superior corrosion protection, gives hardness to the metal and helps provide resistance to substances. Whilst our jewellery is designed to be more durable than traditional gold plating, even micron thick gold-plated jewellery and silver jewellery can be expected to naturally tarnish over time with wear. It is important to understand the vulnerabilities of precious metals and gemstones and exercise common sense when wearing, handling and storing your jewellery.
By following this Care Guide and avoiding things that could increase the speed of tarnishing, you will help preserve the quality and lustre of your jewellery.
Protecting Your Jewellery
We strongly recommend you:
- Remove jewellery when in water or exercising.
- Avoid spraying/ applying perfumes, cosmetics, hairsprays, lotions, moisturisers, etc. in places that will be in contact with your jewellery.
- Put on your jewellery with clean hands.
- Avoid your jewellery being exposed to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, humidity, moisture, and direct sunlight.
- Handle your jewellery with care to avoid dropping it or hitting it against hard surfaces.
Not following the above recommendations will cause tarnishing, discolouration and otherwise damage the metals, gemstones and crystals.
Tarnishing due to general wear and tear is not considered a fault (as this will naturally happen over time), however, the process of tarnishing can be considerably slowed by caring for, cleaning and storing your jewellery as outlined in this Care Guide.
Handling Your Jewellery
Care should be taken when putting your jewellery on. For example, care should be taken when attaching earring backs as to not bend the earring post.
Adjustable rings are designed to be fitted to the correct size once – damage caused by continual adjustment of the ring size will not be considered a fault and not fall under our warranty.
Natural gemstones are delicate, therefore care must be taken when handling, cleaning and storing them. It is important to avoid banging, dropping or knocking your jewellery as gemstones will chip, crack, or shatter on impact against hard surfaces. Gemstones should never be exposed to hot water, harsh chemicals or cleaning agents. Always use a dry soft lint free cloth when cleaning gemstones. Gemstones that are damaged due to mishandling will not be considered faulty and not be covered under our warranty.
Many of our pieces contain gemstones and crystals which have been carefully affixed by hand. It is important to avoid banging, dropping or knocking your jewellery as gemstones and, in particular, crystals are vulnerable to dislodge on impact.
Cleaning Your Jewellery
- With clean hands, use only a dry, soft, lint free cloth to lightly wipe your jewellery after each wear. This will help remove any unwanted substances, keep your jewellery looking lustrous and slow down the tarnishing process.
- Take care not to over polish your jewellery as this may cause the removal of the plating. Instead, we recommend using a dry, soft, lint free cloth to gently wipe in one direction.
- Do not use tissue paper or paper towels when cleaning your jewellery as this may cause scratching.
- Your jewellery should never be exposed to hot water, cleaning agents or harsh chemicals as this can cause tarnishing and damage the metals, gemstones and crystals. Tarnishing or damage due to exposure to these substances is not considered a fault and will not be covered by our warranty.
Storing Your Jewellery
To keep your jewellery looking beautiful, it is important to store your jewellery carefully when not being worn. We recommend you store your jewellery in a dark, cool, dry place within the pouch and box provided with your shipment.
As moisture, humidity and direct sunlight can contribute to tarnishing, your jewellery should not be left in bathrooms, kitchen sinks, on windowsills, in a car or in any other source of heat or moisture.
